Five reasons why NOT to work from home

Work from home jobs are a wonderful option for many people, especially work-at-home moms that want to contribute to the family finances. There are lots of great reasons why you might take a legitimate online job. For instance, many people love the flexibility it offers: You can totally hang out in your pj's all morning and nobody will notice except, perhaps, the mailman. But home-based business work isn't for everyone. Here are a few reasons why you may reconsider taking a home-based job.

1. Lack of self-motivation. Are you able to manage yourself, or do you need the presence of hard-working colleagues or a supervisor breathing down your back to get you motivated? If you can't meet your deadlines in those bunny slippers, you'd better not quit your day job.

2. You're "creatively organized." Work at home requires you to be organized in both time and space. You need to set up a personal office, or at least a neat working space, as well as keep track of your own hours and payment, perhaps also writing up invoices and receipts. If your idea of a filing system involves lots of post-it notes, consider revisiting the local employment office.

3. Friends have nicknamed you "The Space Cadet." There is nothing like a controlled work environment to keep you on your toes. If you tend to watch the clock more than your computer screen, then work at home may not be for you.

4. The "starving-artist" syndrome. If you're considering freelancing jobs, be aware that just like in weather systems, there can be dry spells when no cash rolls in. You need to plan your budget around this possibility.

5. "…budget?" Need I say more?
