
Companies of today are trying to be less corporate and it is evident from the fact that a number of Silicon Valley startup companies are opting to stay from where they started off rather than moving into more traditional workspaces.
This has more to do with bad economy but it is also being attributed to web 2.0 technology with availability of laptops, smartphones, social media etc which has enabled employees to interact inspite of location.
There has been a rise in vacant commercial real estate which is up 33% last year and therefore the number of companies operating out of residential areas has spurted to more than 120,000.
Earlier companies started in a garage with a vision to expand into office space but that doesn't seem to be the trend anymore. Companies now seem to prefer home offices for their relaxed surroundings and collaborative environments.
